World Steel Association Announces 14 Companies as Steel Sustainability Champions for 2025
On April 8, 2025, in Sydney, Australia, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) announced the names of 14 companies recognized as Steel Sustainability Champions for their outstanding performance in 2024. Now in its eighth year, this program honors members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and action toward sustainable development.
The companies selected as Steel Sustainability Champions 2025 are:
- Aceros AZA S.A.
- ArcelorMittal
- BlueScope Steel Limited
- EMSTEEL
- HBIS Group Co., Ltd.
- HYUNDAI Steel Company
- JFE Steel Corporation
- JSW Steel Limited
- Nippon Steel Corporation
- Nucor Corporation
- POSCO Holdings
- Tata Steel
- Tenaris
- Ternium
It is noteworthy that Tata Steel and Tenaris have earned this title for the eighth consecutive year and have been on the champions list since the program’s inception in 2018. In the first year, only six members were recognized, but this number increased to 14 in 2025, reflecting the steady growth of the program.
Criteria for selection as a Steel Sustainability Champion include:
- Signing the worldsteel Sustainability Charter: Applicants must show commitment to 20 criteria across environmental, social, governance, and economic (ESGE) dimensions.
- Providing Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data: Companies must submit data covering more than 60% of their crude steel production, and this data must not be older than five years.
- Recognition in worldsteel programs: Companies must either be nominated in one of six Steelie Awards categories or be recognized in the worldsteel Safety and Health Recognition program.
