Steel World Review – The eighth edition of the international METAL EXPO Eurasia 2026 concluded on September 18 at the Istanbul Expo Center after three days of activity. The event brought together steel producers, trading companies, machinery and equipment manufacturers, steel service centers, and downstream industry players from various countries.
The exhibition was held from September 16 to 18, 2026, covering various segments of the iron and steel value chain, from flat and long products, stainless, galvanized and alloy steels to pipes and profiles, production line and rolling mill machinery, industrial furnaces, heat treatment equipment, cutting, automation, measurement and material handling equipment.
An Exhibition Targeting More Than 30,000 Industry Professionals
According to the official METAL EXPO brochure, organizers had planned approximately 42,850 square meters of exhibition space and the participation of around 400 brands for the 2026 edition, with a target of attracting more than 30,000 buyers and industry professionals.
Notably, the exhibition recorded 19,101 international visitors in 2025, a figure that, according to the organizer, represented approximately 30 percent growth compared with the previous edition.
The planned exhibition space for 2026 had also increased by approximately 37 percent compared with the previous edition, indicating the organizers’ efforts to establish Istanbul as one of the region’s key B2B meeting hubs for the steel industry
However, as of the publication of this report, the organizer had not released the final and verified visitor figures for the 2026 edition. Therefore, the figures of more than 30,000 visitors and 400 brands should be regarded as pre-event targets announced by the organizers.
Representatives from Nearly 100 Countries
The geographical reach of METAL EXPO was also notable. Organizers had announced that the event would host steel industry professionals from nearly 100 countries.
The list of participating countries included major steel and trading markets such as Germany, the United States, China, India, Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, Ukraine, Poland and Romania. This geographical mix has made Istanbul’s position between Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa one of METAL EXPO’s key advantages.
Major Steel Industry Players in Attendance
The official list of 2026 exhibitors also included a range of steel producers, traders and steel technology companies.
Among the announced participants were companies and groups such as Tosyalı Holding, Tosçelik, Tosyalı Demir Çelik, Tosyalı Toyo Çelik, Baştuğ Metalurji, Baku Steel Company Turkey, Acciaierie Venete and AFV Acciaierie Beltrame.
The simultaneous presence of steel producers and equipment and technology manufacturers has transformed METAL EXPO from a purely product-oriented exhibition into a platform connecting the production, technology and steel trading segments.
Turkish Steel: From a Regional Player to a Global Player
During the opening ceremony, Ender Yılmaz, Chairman of the Assembly of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO), emphasized the weight of the iron and steel industry within Turkey’s industrial structure.
According to information presented at the opening ceremony, a total of 47 companies operating in iron and steel, steel pipes, profiles, stainless steel and special steels are included in the İSO 500, the ranking of Turkey’s largest industrial enterprises
Companies such as İsdemir, Tosyalı Demir Çelik and Erdemir also remain among Turkey’s largest industrial enterprises.
This data indicates that the steel industry holds a central position in Turkey not only in terms of exports, but also within the country’s industrial structure and investment landscape.
A Key Figure on Turkey’s Stainless Steel Market
One of the notable figures presented during the opening ceremony concerned the stainless steel market.
According to information presented by PASİD, flat stainless steel accounts for only around 4.5 percent of Turkey’s flat steel consumption by volume, but approximately 10 percent by value.
This difference reflects the higher added value of stainless steel.
Turkey is a significant consumer of stainless steel in household appliances, automotive, machinery, defense, energy, chemical and food industries, but it remains considerably dependent on imports for the supply of raw materials for this segment.
During the opening ceremony, emphasis was also placed on the need to establish an integrated stainless steel production facility in Turkey, covering the process from molten steel through hot and cold rolling.
Carbon, Energy and Trade: Three Key Issues in Industry Discussions
METAL EXPO 2026 took place at a time when the global steel industry is facing several simultaneous developments: increasing trade barriers and anti-dumping cases, energy cost pressures, the shift toward low-carbon steel, and the implementation of carbon regulations in export markets.
At the conferences and side sessions held during the exhibition, topics including the transformation of the iron and steel industry, production technologies, global trade conditions, energy costs, carbon regulations and sustainable production were also discussed.
From this perspective, future competition in the steel industry is no longer limited to production capacity or production costs alone. Technology, energy efficiency, emissions intensity and access to export markets are becoming increasingly important components of the competitive equation.
«Smart Steel, Smarter Future»
The slogan of the 2026 edition was “Smart Steel, Smarter Future”, reflecting the organizers’ focus on smart technologies, increased efficiency and sustainable production.
Alongside steel producers, the presence of companies active in automation, measurement equipment, rolling and processing machinery, furnaces, heat treatment and production technologies also demonstrated that major steel exhibitions are gradually shifting from showcasing final products toward showcasing the entire production technology ecosystem.
Istanbul Seeks a Larger Share of Steel Trade
The importance of METAL EXPO is not limited to the number of exhibitors or visitors. Turkey is located at the intersection of the markets of Europe, the Black Sea, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, and this geographical position makes Istanbul a suitable venue for steel trade negotiations.
At a time when traditional steel trade routes are being affected by tariffs, anti-dumping measures, carbon constraints and shifts in export flows, exhibitions such as METAL EXPO are increasingly becoming platforms for finding alternative markets, new buyers and establishing regional supply networks
Steel World Review believes that the most important message of METAL EXPO 2026 lies in this very shift: the global steel market has entered a period in which “producing more” alone is no longer a competitive advantage. Market access, technology, energy, carbon and commercial networks are simultaneously shaping the future position of producers.
