A Finnish company has awarded a contract to Primetals Technologies for the supply of a new flame-cutting machine to be used at its facilities in Finland. This environmentally friendly solution is part of Primetals Technologies’ latest advancements in scrap cutting technology and significantly reduces noise during the cutting process.
The scrap cutting machine ensures that the Finnish company is well-positioned to meet both current and future demands for scrap in the industry. The need for effective waste management systems is growing, which aligns with the shift toward green steel production.
A highly efficient dust extraction system ensures that dust emissions from the cutting process remain significantly below the limits set by environmental regulations. Additionally, the cutting machine is housed within a movable cabin, which further helps to reduce noise emissions. This new technology enables the Finnish company to comply with Finland’s stringent environmental regulations, which were a key factor in the decision to purchase the machine. Moreover, the technology improves process efficiency and occupational safety.
Operators control the machine from a safe distance, using a control desk outside the cutting cabin, while being monitored by a video surveillance system. Predefined cutting programs based on instructions simplify operations and reduce processing times.
The new machine is capable of cutting various types of scrap, including billets, blooms, and bundles of rolled rebar. Additionally, the machine’s ability to integrate iron powder into the cutting process allows for the cutting of tundish slag, rolling rolls, and other hard and high-alloy materials.
