According to Steel World Review, Bahram Sobhani, Chairman of the Iranian Steel Producers Association, reported the continuation of severe electricity restrictions for steel units, saying that since the beginning of the year, these restrictions have reduced the energy received by some units by as much as 80 to 85 percent.
According to Sobhani, the steel industry provides around 3,000 megawatts of electricity through self-supply. However, some units have been forced to purchase the electricity they need from the Energy Exchange to prevent production stoppages. According to him, although purchasing this electricity has caused economic losses, it has helped factories continue operating.
The Chairman of the Iranian Steel Producers Association also said that the price of electricity on the Energy Exchange, which had risen to around 200,000 rials in recent months, has now fallen to around 80,000 to 90,000 rials.
